Dear Friends,

I have spent a lot of time this summer hiking in God's country! As in my spiritual life, He guides me with signposts and Good Samaritans along the way to keep me on track.

The annual Upper Peninsula Catholic Services Appeal (UPCSA) kicks off in September with this letter from Bishop Doerfler. Gifts to UPCSA support diocesan-wide ministries such as Upper Peninsula Catholic Social Services and the education of our seminarians. American Olympic swimming gold medalist, Katie Ledecky has long spoken about how her Catholic faith has kept her grounded, saying that she finds the Hail Mary to be a “calming” prayer and prays it before races. Her four medals from Tokyo make her the most decorated female swimmer of all time and her Catholic alma maters are proud. Read her story from the National Catholic Register here.

Plans for the annual Carmelite Silver Tea are underway! This year’s event will be 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, outdoors in front of the monastery at the U.S. 2 and M-95 junction in Iron Mountain. The tea, which is open to the public, features an array of silent auction items, more than 20 gift baskets, crafts of all kinds, and the Sister’s famous homemade breads. In addition, a major drawing is planned that includes a 50-inch Visio TV, a kayak with paddle and life vest, a baby stroller/car seat combination, a gas barbecue grill, a pair of diamond earrings, and a full-size handmade quilt.

Refreshments of ice tea, lemonade, and cookies will be available.

Join us in the Rosary Garden at the Baraga Educational Center and Museum (615 S. Fourth Street Marquette, MI) on Tuesdays at 4:30 pm as we pray a rosary for Bishop Baraga's Cause for Canonization, the intention of the visitors to the Baraga Chapel & Museum, and our personal intentions.

In the event of inclement weather, we pray the rosary in the Museum.
