Dear Friends,
As we begin the beautiful and challenging season of Lent, I am reminded why we need these 40 days so much - a spiritual reset.
Our first reading from the First Sunday of Lent takes us all the way back to Genesis, and the fall of Adam and Eve. Life was good in Eden until the first couple was tempted by the serpent. Adam and Eve became distrustful despite all that God had given them. Sound familiar?
Matthew's Gospel from the First Sunday of Lent describes Jesus in the desert fasting for 40 days and 40 nights. Like Adam and Eve, He is confronted by the evil one. But the Lord is triumphant over the devil’s lies.
How did He do it? By knowing the Scriptures and by proclaiming them confidently! And by His perfect trust in the Father.
This Lent, let us embrace this 40-day spiritual reset. May we prioritize our time by committing to prayerful study of the Scriptures and trusting more deeply in the Father’s love and will. We will surely be better stewards by Easter.
Thanks for reading, friends.
In Christ,
