Graces for the Church
Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ!
Peace be with you.
Last week brought an outpouring of God’s grace to the Diocese of Marquette. Fr. Zack Mazurek was ordained to the priesthood by my brother in the Lord, Bishop John Opoku-Agyemang of the Diocese of Konongo-Mampong, Ghana.
The grace poured out in an ordination is meant for the Church, because a priest is ordained for the benefit of the People of God, not for his own benefit. The grace that a priest receives when he is ordained is ordered to the sanctification of the People of God. The priest is to be a man for others. It is beyond our imagining how the Lord desires to work through a priest to save his people and draw them ever closer to his Sacred Heart. Pray for your priests that they may be faithful to the calling that they received.
In addition, we were blessed with the presence of Bishop John Opoku-Agyemang. His visit is an outward expression of the Church throughout the world and the common faith that we share. We have been enriched by the faith that he and priests from his diocese have shared with us. He and his predecessor have been very generous in sending priests to serve in the Diocese of Marquette. What outstanding priests he sends us! About one-third of the priests serving in our diocese are from other countries, so we are truly grateful for their presence and ministry in our diocese.
May God send many blessings upon you this summer.
With prayers that your hearts be filled with the Joy of the Gospel, I am
Sincerely in Christ,
+Bishop John Doerfler
